First Grader with Asperger's

lauliza
My daughter has Asperger's and i was wondering how the Parent's experiences have been with special education, and if anyone has had experience specifically with Asperger's. My family is looking to relocate from another community where funding for everything in the schools is seriously lacking, and I have heard Sharon has one of the best Public Schools for kids with disabilities or challenges. She is pretty high functioning Aspergers but needs lots services just the same.

It seems that the South Shore and metro west of have the better schools when you compare. And Easton is a lovely town.
Winthrop is good at this age level, but really goes down hill from Grades 3 on up...thanks!

I've found that the special ed department in Easton is very good. My younger two children both have ADHD/ADD and are on education plans. They did fairly well with the "regular" schooling, but the support they get with the Special Ed department is incredible. I always feel that there is someone I can talk too. Good luck in your search.

Hi. Unfortunately, Greatschools is a nationwide forum, and the chance of finding another family from the same town, with a child of similar age, and having a similar diagnosis, is slim. I'm not from MA, but I do have a child with disabilities, and I always recommend that parents join a local support group for whatever condition their child has (ie, www.autismspeaks.org, or www.thearc.org) and network through those families to find out about the best schools and other resources in a given area. For general online support, I'd also like to suggest that you join and repost your question in Greatschools Asperger's/Autism Group at community.greatschools.net/groups/18940
