How involved should young kids be in school fundraising?

brettsmom
At my son's old private school there was fundraising morning, noon and night. Two fundraisers were collecting the "boxtops" from various products and the other was pull tabs from cans. The classes competed with each other from 8th frade right down to Pre-K which was my son's grade then. Since the kids were little of course, the parents and kids pulled out the stops for them to win. We scouted for boxtops and pulltabs like fiends. Well, when it came out that the youngest kids had a big lead, the older kids and their parents complained, the school changed the deadlines and the 6th grade class won in the end! The poor little Pre-K kids, including my son were devastated!! These kids were 4, 5 & 6! It was so wrong that we didn't let our son do anything else with fundraising. Now I think that the little ones should be exempt from fundraising competitions. Pre-K, Kinder, 1st, they are just too young.
