My husband just enrolled my 3 year old at cogswell elementary and the girl that helped said he was going to start first five and I don't know what that means..
Is there a difference between headstart and first five?
Parent Answers to "Is there a difference between headstart and first five?"
thank you all for you answers to my question. My son is now attending first five and I have attending my first parent meeting and I got to know more about the first five program and understand it. thanks for your comments though they really helped :)
ManetMom is right about the program. I just want to add more information about the First 5. Children must be 3 at the time of registration, no diaper, first come first serve. There will be a fee incur, base on household income, but not that much. On top of that, there only 3 hour/day, so make sure you have someone to pick him/her up. I've checked in this program in Head star office last year, but decided not send my child there, due to not meet our timing. ( We both work fulltime) For more information about the program, you can call 626-652-4283, and ask for Alicia. She works there from 8-12. She was very helpful when I called. Good luck!
First5 refers to a program that is run by the state of California, paid for by a cigarette tax instituted years ago. Headstart is a federal program. While they both run preschools as a primary responsibility, I think First5 does a whole lot more starting with parent education from the prenatal stage.
I've never heard of the first five program, either, but you might want to join Greatschool's Preschool Parents Group and ask there: community.greatschools.net/groups/11534
