What are the good preschools and Elementary schools in Sierra Vista?

blessedmomof3
My family is relocating to Sierra Vista in a couple of months. I have a preschooler and a 1st grader and I'm trying to find a school for both of them. I'm not sure how the school zones are divided up but I know that we'll be living in base housing. If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I recently relocated to Sierra Vista. I have a degree in Social work and have 8 years working in daycares. Three of which were in a preschool. My first job here was at CAS preschool. I recently went out of the preschool relm because I had to leave. I was not happy working there. There were some state issues I was worried about involving using styrofoam cups all day for the kids to drink out of, water and milk. A bathroom would frequently overflow into a classroom yet they kept the children in the room despite their being empty classrooms down the hall. If teachers had to use the bathroom they were required to walk their children to another classroom to have another teacher watch them while they went, throwing off teacher student ratios. This was while one or both of the people in charge were up front. However right as I was leaving I believe they were trying to correct some of these issues. The cirriculum was good and most of the teachers were excellant while I was there. There is a high turn over rate just in the two months I was there and the two managers or people in charge are rarely involved so teachers do not work with any other adults. Also there wasn't much supplies or toys for the children. Many times teachers bought supplies themselves or brought their own books to read to the children.
I can't say first hand but a few of the teachers at CAS had come from Johnson and Johnson and they said conditions were horrible there. And a few of the parents pulled their kids to go to Imagine Preschool. I was hoping to try for a job there.

I realize preschools won't be ranked, as young kids don't take standardized tests, but are the elementary schools you're looking at private ones? If they are religious based, you might be able to get test results from a local diocese, or if they're accredited by a particular agency, like www.nais.org, those groups should have some comparative information.

Thanks I tried that but there haven't been any ratings for the schools I'm looking at. I've also done a cross research on the school report cards for the area, but I still don't know what schools will be in our zone and our move will be during the Christmas holiday. I'm having a really interesting time with this. :)

Hi. The best advice I can give is to try using the "Find a School" feature on the green menu bar near the top of this page...You can enter a location and grade level and see a list of all schools in a given area. Public ones are rated from 1 (low) to 10 (high) based on how students performed on recent statewide testing. If you click on the individual school names in blue, you can find out more details about the schools, and read any parent comments that have been made.
