Probably not. If you feel your child might be struggling or have behavior issues, let the teacher know and ask if they can let you know if any issues arise. Many teachers are happy to answer your questions after school or they have email where you can submit questions and comments. Teachers are very busy and if they had to give weekly updates, they wouldn't have much time to prepare to teach.
If you keep an eye on your son's homework when it comes home, talk to him and see if he feels like things are ok or not, and don't be afraid to touch base with the teacher now and then you'll have a pretty good idea how your son is doing. Also, depending on your schedule, your son's teacher and grade, you may want to check the possibility of volunteering in the class for an hour a week if you can. This allows you to see how your child interacts within the classroom AND they are always so proud to have their parent in the class.
Remember, it usually means your child is doing fine if you are not hearing from the teacher on a regular basis, and if you are involved with your child's homework you will be more aware if they seem to be struggling and then can talk to the teacher about ways to help them improve. Teachers can't give kids the one-on-one special attention we and they wish could occur so being an involved parent is vital to your child's success. Don't do the homework for them, but be there for them to ask questions.
Hi. Unfortunately, Greatschools is a nationwide forum, not associated with any particular school or district. Even individual teachers within a school have different policies about informing parents of their student's progress. You will have to call your son's teacher directly and ask. Sorry we can't be of more help.
