How much choice do you have over your kids school?

MZZHEE
Does your child/children have to go to the school closest to your address or can they go to any school in their school district? For example, I want to enroll my child in a school thats a mile away but there is a school right down the street from me.

Sometimes the school closest to your address is not the school that has that magical line drawn that includes your home. Check you district's website - many have it posted for you to see. Most districts will have a transfer policy of some kind, also - so checking the website is the best place to start.

MZZHEE, welcome to GreatSchools Parent Community.

The real answer, especially here in Southern California, is "it depends."

While I live in the San Fernando Valley and am most familiar with LAUSD, I have friends in Simi and Thousand Oaks and both have a variety of programs for school choice.

I'm not sure if you're in Pleasant Valley School District, or if there are still other districts up there, but there are definitely school choice forms on the PVUSD website located here: www.pvsd.k12.ca.us/164110228192380/blank/browse.asp?A=383&BMDRN=2000&BCOB=0&C=54620

Your best bet, however, to understand your options and learn about the deadlines would be to contact the district.

Good luck, and let us know what you find out.
