Thanks everyone! This is very encouraging news!! I still need to iron out the details of which school she will attend and the possibility of afterschool care... but I am excited to hear she will be able to attend with the kids down in LA.

Thanks for the invitation to join LAUSD, I believe I will benefit from joining this group and will do so.

Take care!!

LAUSD even has a school finder which will allow you to type in your address and let you see what school to contact. search.lausd.k12.ca.us/cgi-bin/fccgi.exe?w3exec=schfinder0

And we'd absolutely love to have you in the LAUSD Parents Group! Welcome to Los Angeles!

Yes, your daughter can attend LA schools while you are here. Healthy11 has the correct information. Take the documents she listed to the school in your neighborhood. If you're not sure which school your child will attend, call the Los Angeles Unified School District office and ask them.

Hi. I'm not from CA, but I believe the answer is yes. Where I live, they allow children of migrant workers to attend the schools. You would have to have your child's birth certificate, medical records to show that her innoculations are current, and something that shows your address is within the boundaries of the public school that you want her to attend. If you send her to a private school, you pay tuition, but they don't have the same "attendance zone" limitations as public schools.
Since you mention moving to LA, you might want to join the LAUSD parents group at community.greatschools.net/groups/13589
