My child has ADD/ADHD and some learning issues. She is receiving tier 2 interventions. I am told that though she receives those accommodations in class, even with tests...she wont be able to receive them with the TAKS test. HOW is that fair? The state to be is setting her up to fail. Anyone have that same situation and have any suggestions?

She's not quite special ed. but not regular ed. either. This does NOT seem right!!! She should have the accommodations ALL the time.

By the way, I heard a while back the state was doing away with TAKS testing...is that true? If so, WHEN is that going to happen?

Thanks!

How do I get her labeled? She was tested at Scottish Rite but the did not recommend an IEP or the 504, just the tier 1,2, and then 3. I feel the schools will waste too much time getting her to that point.

She gets more one on one time, untimed tests, highlighted key words or phrases or details in work...and a few other things...I'll try to find my list to post all of them.

She does NOT have a 504 or IEP, they said she is not having quite enough trouble...yet they expect her to fail her TAKS test because she can't have those extra steps/help during the TAKS. It doesnt seem right to me! Very unfair.

In addition to the other advice, I'd like to recommend that you join Greatschool's Learning and Attention Difficulties Group at community.greatschools.net/groups/11554, where more parents of kids with issues will see your questions, and hopefully some Texas residents can tell you how they're dealing with TAKS concerns.

Does she have a 504 plan or an IEP? What specific accommodations are you referring to?

While it is true that someone cannot read to a student when reading is being tested, other portions that do not specifically test reading may be read to a student (e.g. science or math testing) if those accommodations are written into a 504 plan or IEP.
