We are moving to Simi Valley area nex summer 2010. Can we get in on a lottery if we don't have a address yet?

If you move in the summer and can't get in on the lottery; does this mean that your kids get the worst schools or do you have any rights to the school in your neighborhood?

albertg,

I'm not sure where you're moving from but routinely Simi Valley is rated one of the safest cities of its size in the country (along with Thousand Oaks and Santa Clarita).

You can find gang activity virtually in any city in any state in this country. But there's clearly a reason why so many people move to Eastern Ventura County and put up with the commutes--and it's mostly for its low crime and great schools.

You will find gangs in a variety of areas. I'm not certain about Simi Valley, but you could check the police blotter in each of these cities by googling the police department web site or the local paper, Ventura County Star and inquiring as to the location of the police blotter or listing of recent crimes in the county.

Hi albertg:

I don't live in Ventura County, but I do live in Los Angeles County. I would suggest you stay away from Oxnard, though, if you can. My husband grew up in Ventura, and, like most counties, it has its good areas and not-so-good areas.

Here is a link to Ventura County schools: www.ventura-county-relocation.com/schools/school_main.htm. I hope this helps in your search.

One other question I thought of. Are there gangs in Ventura County and are there areas we shouldn't buy in for that reason? Our mortgage broker who lives in Orange County mentioned a problem of a gang problem in Ventura County. You don't get accurate information from real estate agents regarding this.
Thanks for any input.
