I am under the impression that gated communities were developed to keep out crime. One good thing is fewer cars just cruising around the neighborhood. We live on a main road in our development where there is lots of traffic. Thanks
Hi. I responded to your other San Antonio question, but I'm not sure what you mean by this one. Help with what?
The friend I mentioned who is moving to San Antonio next week has bought in a gated community. She leads me to believe that the way much of San Antonio is laid out, there are individual builders who erected their communities with access roads along the main highways, and you don't have a lot of choice if you're looking for a larger home. She suspects that it will make it more difficult to "get to know the neighbors" (in part, because the homes in her community have large lots) and that may also make it harder for kids to have "spontaneous play dates" (but her children are older, and will soon be able to drive themselves to friends.) She did say the neighborhood seems very quiet, and because it's gated, there aren't a lot of cars driving around the streets that don't belong there. I don't know if those are the kinds of pros/cons you meant, but that's what she's seen thusfar. (Her husband has been down in San Antonio for 6 months, but she remained in Chicagoland until her kids finished this school year.)
