Hi preetiram,

That is great since there has a lot of tutor or day care services. Anyway we have to pay expensive services after school. My kids were from private school and then convert to public school. Now i recognized that the tuition and expenses are not different from public vs private school. I don't think the family has two or more kids wouldn't afford those services. I have two kids and I have to pay day care services as same as you do pay too. This is our concerns and there ever has any solution.

Hi andstev,

I enrolled my daughter with TutorTime. The van comes and picks her up and I pick her up from there after my work. I'm happy with TT, its a nice place and its closer to my work.

What grade(class) are your kids in?

Thank you for explaining more details about the Bell program. I aldready asked that this program only is supervised by kids are grade 2 to grade 5 in all elementary schools. Unfortunately, our kids (grade 1 and kindergarden students )don't allow to join this program. Since the budgets are cutting right now, we have no solution how to solve this concerned. Only we have to pay day care sercices to pick up kids and they take carre them until 6pm. Would you think any solution to help us.? Thank you very much,

Beyond the Bell is a "permissive" program. Kids are supervised on the yard, but they typically request older kids because there's no one keeping them on the yard, and they can wander off at any time. They help with homework and do games with the kids.

If you have concerns over whether that's the right place for your kids, contact the school and ask for the Beyond the Bell person on campus. Go watch and see if that's enough supervision for you or not.

Thank you.

Hi preetiram:

Not meaning to step on any toes, but here's a link to the Beyond the Bell program: www.lausd.k12.ca.us/lausd/offices/btb/. I don't know if Woodland Hills ES offers Beyond the Bell there; your best bet would be to call the school directly and ask if they do.

My son attends a middle school which has the Beyond the Bell program. They have after school sports, where the kids actually travel to other schools to compete. Just before the holidays, BTB took the kids to Disneyland. Of course, parents had to pay for their kid's admission, plus food, but everyone had fun.

Good luck.

MagnetMom. Thank you for your response. We live in Reseda. So we are a little concerned about the after school activites. Can you give us a little more information about the 'Beyond the Bell' program.

I will be calling the school to get the numbers from them.

Hi preetiram, and welcome to GreatSchools Parent Community. I'm in the SFV, too, albeit, the opposite corner.

You might want to direct your question to the folks in the office at WHES. I did a quick check and West Valley YMCA doesn't pick up at WHES and the Boys and Girls Club of the West Valley doesn't pick up there either.

There has to be other programs in the area, especially given that there are at least 104 of you on the waiting list. Also find out whether their afterschool enrichment runs every day, or if a Beyond the Bell type LAUSD program runs concurrently with their afterschool program. Beyond the Bell is less supervised, but it could be something until you get called off the waiting list.

I'd definitely welcome you to join the LAUSD Parent Community here on GreatSchools. We're located at community.greatschools.net/groups/13589

Good luck, and congrats on getting into WHES!
