Welcome to Wake County. I'm very sorry that your child has been assigned to different schools from one year to the next, and that understanding this complicated system is so difficult.

Here is the link to the school assignment directory: wwwgis2.wcpss.net/cgi-bin/prod/mainscript/MainScript.pl
You plug in your exact street address & it tells you the school(s) to which your specific "node" has been assigned. There may or may not be a traditional calendar school available for your node.

A group that formed to protest the mandatory year-round schools here, recently lost a lawsuit they brought against the school board. As a result, the board can assign your student to a year-round school without parental consent and they no longer have to offer a traditional calendar option.

Traditional calendars are available at magnet schools (where only some will get in), charter schools (you'll provide transportation), or private schools (tuition).

If you find that your only base school assignment is to a year-round school, then you would need to decide whether any of the other options would work for your family better than the year-round school to which you've been assigned.
