If you're interested in crime statistics, I always recommend contacting local police departments. Most schools have "liaison officers" who maintain data on the types of problems that occur in the different buildings. At my son's school, the police representative showed up at monthly PTA meetings, and even answered specific questions from parents about the different incidents. I realize if you're not yet enrolled in a school, you won't know if they do that, but nothing prevents you from contacting the local police department now, to ask.
