I have a 10yo that will be going into 5th grade. I am looking at Marana and Amphitheatre Districts. Which one is better and is there a specific school that is outstanding?? Thanks for your input!
I am laughing at Debbs01. Because we are in Tucson a city that has high crime in general. Marana is far better than tusd and amphi, and if you aren't sending your child to private school, then just expect to be at school and stay on top of your child. I hope whoever is reading this doesn't go by Debbs01's review. Good luck!
Neither is very good. Both are overcrowded, underfunded, poor teachers, poor discipline, bullying, theft, drugs, gangs, racial groupings. We are at a privte school downtown and many of the other parents transferred (sometimes reluctantly because it is private) for those reasons. If you are in the NW and are Catholic, Immaculate Heart is outstanding. If not, consider driving downtown.
I would say the Marana District has their act together. They did not cut near as many programs and staff as Amphi this past year with the Arizona budget cuts. There is an outstanding elementary school with a well seasoned Principal I have been really impressed with this year. His name is Eric Abrams at Ironwood Elementary School. He is an excellent leader. They have an excellent music program. Your student will be able to choose to play in the band or orchestra as a 5th grader. The district has great extra-curricular programs from elementary through high school.
