SoCalGal, I'm wondering if elbaharrison's school already did an evaluation of their own...if they didn't, then couldn't that be a legitimate reason they're refusing to authorize the IEE right away? Maybe her son came to them with a private autism diagnosis, and they've never even done their own testing. We really need to know more details....

Charter schools ARE public schools. Therefore, if you requested an independent evaluation, the school has two choices:

Agree and tell you how to go about it or file a due process case. They don't just get to say "no" and hope you go away.

Hi. Does your son currently have an IEP? Did the charter school recently do their own educational evaluation on your son, and that led you to request the IEE?
Instead of going into a lot of detail here, I'd like to suggest that you join and repost your questions in two places: Greatschools Asperger's Group at community.greatschools.net/groups/18940, and the Learning and Attention Difficulties Group at community.greatschools.net/groups/11554
