We are visiting Stanford from Aug-Dec and are looking for a school for our 10 year old son.

Mary-Anne
How should we go about it?

Since we are foreigners what do we need to do?

Who should we contact for help and guidance?

Thanks!

While I live in Southern California, we have family in the area. You will find that the local elementary schools are considered quite good. The folks helping you with your posting at Stanford can also help identify which school will be your son's neighborhood school.

I don't know what country you will be coming from but it will be helpful to bring a copy of your son's school records and samples of his school work from this past school year so that the principal and teachers at the California school can better understand his needs as a student.

Additionally, you will be asked to provide residency documentation when you register your son for school -- your Stanford contacts can help explain this as well.

You will not be the first visiting faculty family from another country in the schools around Stanford -- you will find that the schools have handled this situation in the past.

Welcome to California. I do hope that your stay is wonderful.
