private school scholarships in NC

ncdirtfarmer
Please provide a link on your site where low income families can apply for scholarship money for their students to attend private schools. I read a blurb about it on this site but saw no link. This is something badly needed in our area. Our public schools are in a miserable condition. We have no alternatives without assistance.

I don't live in NC, but I hope someone from your area who is familiar with the program sees your posting and can answer your question. I'm sorry I can't be of more help.

I saw, on this site, a mention of tuition $ available from the NC state gov. for low-income families to enable their children to attend private school. I have also heard this in passing from a school administrator. In our county, families are fleeing the system at an exponential rate. The local sheriffs office compares our middle school to the local prison. 70% of the 7th grade failed the EOG test. And now, teachers are being laid-off. State oversite is a joke, because of politics. Our only alternative is to abandon the system.
I have 3 left of school age and have been Home schooling 2, the other I had to send to live with family out of the area.

To be honest, I've not heard of many scholarships anywhere in the U.S. for elementary, middle, or high school students. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation might be worth contacting. I know some individual private schools offer scholarships to highly qualified applicants, but you'd have to contact the schools individually to find out about what they offer. Some parents take jobs at private schools in order to qualify for reduced or free tuition. As far as NC specifically, Parker Autism Foundation is a charitable foundation that provides funds for services for autistic children who live in that state. See www.parkerautismfoundation.org
