I am not from America,I don't know anything about education there.Where can i get all the informathion?

Dinocha
I am from Kazakhstan. And I'm going to move to Los-Angeles next year. But the problem is that I can't find any sites where I could get all the information needed. I am not sure if I should go to college or to high school(I will graduate 9th grade in Kazakhstan). I would like to attend acting school. I speak russian so it would be perfect if the school would have russian studens and russian lessons(I am not sure that russian lessons are possible in L.A.). Should I pass any exams to attend schools in L.A.? Do students wear uniform at colleges/schools? Whick subjects are included? It would be really great if You helped me.
Thank you, Dina.

YOU CAN EITHER GO ON ONLINE TO YOUR LOCAL COUNTY SCHOOL WEBSITE OR GO ONLINE TO YOUR STATE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION. BOTH SHOULD HAVE THE STATE GUIDELINES FOR ALL GRADE LEVELS CONTAINING CURRICULUM COURSE OF STUDY OBJECTIVES FOR ALL SUBJECT AREAS. YOU COULD ALSO GO TO A CITY WEBPAGE AND FIND ALL SORTS OF LOCAL INFO ABOUT SCHOOLS/DISTRICTS/CIVIC PROGRAMS & ACTIVITIES.
BASICALLY ALL SCHOOL SYSTEMS ARE DIVIDED INTO 3 LEVELS -
ELEMENTARY (KINDERGARTEN THRU 5TH OR 6TH GRADE) THESE KIDS WOULD START AT AGE FIVE AND COMPLETE ONE GRADE A YR
THEN MIDDLE SCHOOL - 6/7/8 TH GRADE
THEN HIGH SCHOOL 9/10/11/12TH GRADE COMPLETION OF ALL GRADES K-12 STUDENTS THEN ARE ELLIGIBLE FOR GRADUATION FROM HIGH SCHOOL-
YOUR LOCAL COUNTY SCHOOL WEBSITE SHOULD HAVE LINKS TO SCHOOLS SO U CAN VIEW & GET A CLOSER LOOK AT THE FACILITY/STAFF/PROGRAMS

I came to the U.S. from Ukraine. I have been living in Los Angeles for 9 years. There is a Russian Community in West Hollywood . I also know that Fairfax High School has some Russian speaking students. It is a public school without any tuition fee. It might has an English learning class for students who just have arrived to the U.S.. If you just need to finish 10th grade in Kazahstan to get a high school diploma I would advise you to do it there and then come to LA . Otherwise, you can encounter with legal problems in Los Angeles. The U.S. recognizes our high school diploma and you will have extra 1 or 2 years before the college . I do not know if they accept in college under age of 18. It might depend on college.

I am from Chicago, not from Los Angeles, but it doesn't matter where you would try to attend school independently in the U.S., the fact that you are not of legal adult age (18) and would not be with a parent or guardian, or come as part of an authorized foreign exchange program, is likely to be a problem. Maybe someone in a U.S. Embassay could tell you more?

I have NOT heard of campuses for students who come to the U.S. without relatives. There are some students who come to study in the U.S. as part of officially recognized foreign exchange programs, where the exchange offices handle the living arrangements and legal matters, but most schools will NOT accept students under age 18 who try to arrange studies "on their own." What would happen in an emergency? Who would be responsible for your medical care? You may want to ask your school, and see if they can put you in touch with an official foreign exchange group, like AFS, Rotary Club, or ASSE. You could also try to contact other people you know who have come to study or visit the U.S. in the past, and see if they can give you names of people who might be willing to take on a guardianship while you are here. How do your parents feel about this?

Thanks
I'm 15 now so I'll be 16 next year. No, I'm coming to US without perents and I have no relatives there. I have heard that there are campuses for students like me...am I right? I'm asking about the uniform becouse in Kazakhstan students must wear it in public schoo, not in private. Thanks again
There's a huge Russian community in Los Angeles - google it and you'll find several community centers that serve the Russian speaking community there. You'd attend high school and possibly you could live in the same area as the Russian community. You clearly also speak English or someone does for your post is very well-written.
Some 'public schools' or government schools require uniforms and others don't. There are no entrance exams for public (government) high schools.
British English and other European countries use the word 'college' in a very different way than does American English. The word 'college' here means essentially the same as 'university' and you'd attend college or university only after completing high school.
Good luck.

Hello. How old are you? Will you be coming to the U.S. with your family? If not, do you have relatives to stay with? The age at which students are considered "adults" in the U.S. is 18, so you might need someone to handle legal/guardianship issues.

In the U.S., Grades 9-12 are "High School." There are both public high schools (where students don't pay tuition, it's taken care of by the government through taxes on everyone) and there are private high schools (where tuition is paid by the families of the students who attend the school.)

If you go to a public school, which one you attend is often determined by where you live, and it's usually close to where your apartment or house is located. Private schools may have separate exams to determine which students they accept, but they usually do not have geographic limits....If you can pay the tuition and get transportation to/from the private school, you can probably attend. Some private schools may specialize in particular studies. Private schools are more likely than public schools to have a dress code.

College/universities are for studies in Grades 13 +, and they all involve paying some type of tuition. Based on what you've said, I think you are still going to be in high school. I hope this helps.
