We are moving to Tucson in December, and my son will start 1st grade at second semester.

How should we go about enrolling him? I still need to find a school I like, but should we start letting the school know he'll be coming already this fall?

Have you considered private? The best schools in Tucson are the International School (PK - 5) and St Gregorys (6 - 12). Of course, they have to be the best because that is what parents pay for.

It depends on your preferences for schools. I have my kids going to charter schools. Most schools are open during the summer months for short hours during the day to accept enrollments for new students or to answer any questions. It does not hurt to gather all information from new schools and make the decisions no later by late fall time for enrollment.
