kids, 2nd grade,5th and two in H.S. I'm so confused. Schools get high ratings, but kids move a lot. How far from base school? Do they change schools every year? Are the schools as wonder as I read even with the moving around? Please give me some advice. Its driving me crazy! Thank you.

Before moving into Wake County, you should first have an understanding of the very unique school system in place here. An enormous amount of money is spent hyping how wonderful it is (and there are truly a few wonderful schools). Even more is spent on busing students around to create income diversity.

I highly recommend picking up a copy of a book written by a Cary parent that explains in detail how the system works & how the redistricting that takes place across Wake Co. can unexpectedly affect your family. You can find it here: www.amazon.com/Wake-Countys-Secret-Deena-Trebil/dp/0557011930

Cary & Apex are great areas in which to live, and they do have some great schools. You should simply understand how things really work here, especially if school is the most important thing for your family.

you're asking about Cary and Apex, and those are the areas with the highest growth and thus the greatest need for new schools and attendance balancing (ie, shifting). 10 years ago, "Apex" barely registered as a place. Still, there are some more established areas in both towns with more stable attendance zones. You should be able to get my email from my profile and I can send you some links if you'd like.
