What is your opinion?

nicojo
My daughter will start Kinder in the fall and am wondering what to do...send her to her home school and pay for afterschool care or send her to the school I work at which is in another school district? Both schools are a bit comparable with test scores and offerings. What do you think?

Try asking yourself this - which is more important to me and best for my child - being able to see her daily, perhaps eat lunch with her, etc OR having her in the school with the children she lives near and working on being a part of my neighborhood school community. Our principal moved into our community so she could have both and has never regretted her decision - sure she has the occasion where she has to balance between district administrator and parent, but she always seems to find a way to have her parental opinion heard. Which brings me to this, is having your daughter in the school where you teach going to make it easier or harder for you to communicate if there is a problem. I have seen it both ways, you know the people where you work, and hopefully where you live - so weigh out both sides. I don't think you can make a wrong decision as long as it is well thought out with a purpose.
You have a choice of kindergartens? Or just a choice for afterschool care?
In either case, I'd say I had both my sons at my school and it was a great experience for all of us. We went back and forth to school together everyday - and we shared the experience that was the school. It gave our lives a wonderful connection - their friends knew me as a teacher as well as a parent, I knew their friends as students of mine.
If you have the opportunity to have your daughter in your school, it's a rare opportunity that few people have but one my sons and I enjoyed a great deal.
