I'm hard pressed to see anything good about it though I like the idea of holding schools accountable - every public institution has a responsibility to demonstrate to the public that it's doing a good job.
I don't think NCLB tells us anything though. Who's seen a copy of the state tests? Are they well-written tests? Does a good education really only boil down to the taking of one test?
I think there's far more to a good education than any single test. For the billions of tax dollars that are spent each year in public education, I think the public deserves more information than that offered by the state tests.
I'd also ask - what have these tests accomplished? How are things better in our schools or in any school as a result of these tests?
