Hi. Unfortunately, Greatschools is a nationwide forum, and the chance of finding another family from a particular town, who has a child of similar age and with similar needs, is slim. I'm not from NC, but I have a child who had an IEP, and I know some schools might have good reputations for handling certain kinds of LDs, but not others. My advice is to try and contact a local support group for whatever your child is diagnosed with (ie, www.chadd.org for ADHD, or www.interdys.org for dyslexia, or www.thearc.org for autism or Down's) and network through those parents to get recommendations on the best schools and other resources in a given area.

Partnership Elementary School in Raleigh. It's about a 15-20 minute commute to the school which is a block from the corner of Peace Street and Hillsborough Street. Classes are very small, only 3 classes in each grade. Classes for the specific grades are combined and teachers team teach. Learning is very active and hands on, and teachers/administrators know all the children. It's a wonderful place to learn. It isn't a magnet school, per se, but rather a hybrid of sorts. Call the school directly and find out how to apply or be on the waiting list. It is a public school. That's the only one I know of that does well with IEPs but I'm certain there are many others as well. Hope this helps.
Thanks so much for responding! I'm going to pick your brain once more-do you know what the Middle School would be for this area? I also know about the redistricting which makes it hard to nail down a school. In NY where we are now that is not done, so I am still trying to wrap my head around all of this. Hope to hear from you, thanks again.
Morrisville Elementary is a fantastic school. My son has had an IEP send second grade but it was not until we moved to NC and the IEP was reviewed by the staff at Morrisville for my child’s 4th grade year that I felt it was well written. It was also the first IEP meeting where I felt that my questions were appreciated and that my suggestions were important.
Even if it is not your base school you may be able to select it as a year-round option.
