I agree with the YMCA. They have reasonable price and scholarship for some families/discount for many children.

I will be home during the summer and a few of my friends like to hire college or high student and some bring in their parents for help.

Most of these students charge less and do a good job with the children. My friend's children have many activities during the summer and the baby sitter job seems to be driving them to these activities, which are free or a low fee.

Best wishes!

YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, your local parks and recreation. The only difficulty I found was that many programs started and ended at times not in my schedule. This is where you negotiate with your employer for a little flexabiltiy. Explain how long you will be coming in late/leaving early. If not you and your spouse may have to take alternating vacation time so someone is always at home with them.

In addition, you may check with your city's local recreation department -- some offer local programs for the week that school is out.

My kids have always participated in camps at the YMCA. The kids are kept busy and go on field trips during the week. Last year, my son participated in a sleep away camp for a few days. It was a good experience for him to be away from mom and dad for a short period of time.

This year we got smart and planned some of our vacation time during one of the weeks our daughter's daycare is closed.

But that doesn't cover every thing. Usually we can get a family member or friend to help out but sometimes we've had to pay for a babysitter since our daughter is not old enough to attend full day camps yet.
