Dealing with unpredictability.

I am currently unemployed and I am looking for a job. I haven't achieved employment and it is almost certain that we'll have to relocate. My son is currently in 9th grade and is enrolled in an online school. The curriculum hasn't been very rigourous and we are really wanting to get him back into a regular school setting. However my local public and private schools are not very good and don't offer good options. I am afraid that I won't find a job by the application deadlines for most of the private schools we are looking at in the cities we are likely to move to. I am wondering if I should enroll my child in another online program like Stanford University's EPGY just to be safe. It is expensive, but I cannot delay my childs education. Any advice on what to do?

Negotiate with the on-line schools - tell them the situation and tell them you want a month by month deal. These days everybody's willing to deal.
Including the private schools - their enrollments are Dropping dramatically. Their applications 'deadlines' aren't deadlines anymore. Even in the best of days, if a private school had room they were always happy to hear families call and say "We just moved in the area, I know your deadline has passed but we were just wondering if since we just moved if you'd accept an application??"
The answer then and now to that question will always be yes so long as they have the room and these days they certainly do.

I don;t have any experience in online courses so I can;t offer you any advice in that regards. However, I can;t help thinking why you are looking for a more expensive option at this time? Why don;t you look for a public school in the city you maybe plannig to move? Why go with an expenive alternative and burden the entire family when public schools at this time will be just fine for you?
