Does anyone have documentation/studies that supports holding your child back in kindergaten?

Anonymous
I have searched and searched the web but I cannot find anything that supports this discision. Everything i have read say that it is ineffective with limited short term gains that fade in 2-3 years with no long term gains but with long term negative effects resulting in lower self esteeem and a higher drop out rate.
If there are no stats on the positive effects why would any teacher suggest this??????
Thanks in advance:)

i dont have no documents backing me up but my opion i wouldnt neccesarily hold a child back in kindergarden i feel like that is when the child gets adjusted to being at school so unless you really feel strong about holding your child back than by all means it should be but if not send them on to first grade ask if your school offers a t one or pre first i had my child in t-1 than first grade and i would recommend it for any child that is just struggling a little bit she has been on the a,b honner role and now in the first grade hope that helps some

mentions a study done in 2003 by the National Association of School Psychologists that echos the negatives. From everything I've read, there can be positives if a child truly is just younger and less mature than the rest of the children in the class, but for students with academic problems and learning disabilities, having the same material presented the same way over again doesn't provide many long-term benefits.
