are there any gifted child programs in the flossmour school district?

carsonsmom
My family will be moving to homewood due to job relocation. I have a current gifted 4th grader that is enrolled in a great program in our home town (central WI) kind of nervous about finding the RIGHT public school for our son. The regular classrooms have not been enough in the past... he's not challenged... anybody know if they offer classes in the public schools geared for only gifted children? we are looking to move somewhere around Flossmour/homewood/tinley park.... maybe even Western Indiana....

thank you...... although this is great info... enrichment pull out lessons are not really for Carson. He really needs more. he's too bored in a "regular classroom"

In my Flossmoor public school, children are "upleveled" and might have math classes with children in higher grades. I know one 5th grader who has math class at the jr high, but I don't know the details of that program. In my first grader's class, the reading is done in groups and individually and the children are grouped by ability. Also, I believe all spend some time with the reading specialist - either to catch up or for enrichment.

I could be wrong, but I believe the state standards in IL are generally higher than in IN. I responded to your previous Homewood question, but my advice is perhaps to use the "Find a School" Feature on the green menu bar near the top of this page, then call individual school districts that you might be interested in, and ask if they offer gifted classes, and what those classes consist of. (Self-contained, pull-outs, etc.)
