In addition to the organizations that healthy suggested, I would get referrals from any care providers that you already use. For instance, if your child sees a developmental neurologist, he or she should have a good idea of the schools in your area.

Also - I wonder if your child is already on an IEP and if you are comfortable with the special ed process? Be sure that you read up on your rights - you want to be sure that you are a strong advocate for your child and a respected member of the IEP team. Hi. It's very difficult to answer your question because every child with special needs is different. Some schools might be fine for a child who has physical disabilities, but not be the best place for a child with behavioral needs. Or they might have good programs for children who would benefit from self-contained classes, but they don't provide much support for students in regular classrooms who might need an aide.
I would recommend that you contact a local family support group for whatever condition your child has (ie, www.thearc.org for students with autism or Downs, www.chadd.org for students with ADHD, etc.) and ask those parents what schools they think are best for students with needs similar to your child's.
