How is Cassell Elementary school

dreela
I would like some parents that have their children enrolled in this school leave me a message about the school. My son will attend there in september. He is autistic. I plan on visiting the school anyway but I would like to know what parents think about this school.

He's at Murray Language Academy in Hyde Park. It is a wonderful school also. He is learning lots of new things, challenged, but doing well.

My son is being transfered to this school. That's why I wanted to know more about it. But I found their website so it made me feel a lil better because i had never heard of it. Thank you for responding.

I am very surprised no one has responded to your question....I have heard that this is an exceptional school across the board. I was recently there trying to register my son (he's not autistic). I didn't have an address in that area I could use so they denied me, but they did tell me to come back if I move into the area or if I could find someone who lives in the area to do it for us. The staff were very kind, from the moment I came in through them turning me away, they were patient as well. I met a few teachers and they were very knowledgeable about the curriculum and told me really where my son should be academically. There was a young woman who was a janitor at that school there registering her child who has autism. She said she works for the school, but this would be her son's first year there. She did not say, but I would assume that because she worked there and then decided to enroll her child then it must be great. I ride the bus with children who have autism; most are underestimated and misunderstood. Some adults even, are very stupid and cause me to wonder who really has the autism (because they often relate being stupid with autism)....lol I don't know how the rules work for enrollment, and I know the bus picks kids up from all over the city, but I know of another great school also, Jesse Owens Community Academy at 125th & State. They only go up to third grade. The staff there are amazing, from the principal and office clerks to the janitorial and lunchroom staff. Good luck dreela with your search. If I learn more about this school or another I'll let you know.
