that would appear to be the answer; however, a good friend of mine has a daughter that attended St. Lukes through Jr. School and transfered to Saint Mary's Hall for high school. She was an honor student at St. Luke's and had to have a tutor in every class at Saint Mary's Hall. It was a really hard adjustment.
tango, You mention that your son already attended St.Luke's and liked it, plus it's in your neighborhood, and it has better parent reviews. Since the option exists for him to transfer to St. Mary's Hall later, if St. Luke's doesn't seem to be working out well, it sounds like St. Luke's is a good place to start.
He has shadowed St. Lukes' and Saint Mary's Hall and is very torn. He attended St. Lukes for 2 years and enjoyed it. My daughter attended Saint Mary's Hall and liked it. St. Luke's is in my neighborhool, but I think the academics may be stronger at Saint Mary's Hall. I don't like the snooty factor of Saint Mary's Hall, but don't know if that will be such a factor with a boy. He could go to St. Luke's and then transfer at some time to Saint Mary's Hall. I don't know what to do. He is very interested in art and creative writing. I want his creative side to be nourished as he tends to be very concentrated academically. I noticed the parent student ratings were higher for St. Lukes. Help!!!
outraged, it is hard in many cities for children who have emotional issues to find teachers/schools that "understand" how to teach them. I don't know what condition your son has, but children with bipolar, etc. do best under the care of a specialist ~ most regular pediatricians don't have the expertise to help. When children aren't stable, it's difficult for them to learn, in any school. Do you feel comfortable with your son's current doctors? I am looking for a school that handles children with emotional issues. I have a son who is having alot of problems in the middle school. The administration has told me they do not know how to teach my child. He got sent to an alternative school because they do not want him in the classroom due to emotional issues. I am really upset and appealing this decisions. Its amazing how they have so many programs for the gifted and talented student but the special needs child they don't. Know wonder we have so many drop outs in the San Antonio area. Kids in the 7th grade drop out of school. I would have never moved to this city if I knew my son could not get an education.
Hi. Unfortunately, Greatschools doesn't have a lot of members from any one city, much less families who have kids of similar age who are familiar with particular schools...Do you know why your son didn't like Cambridge? Is it possible for him to do a "shadow visit" to the other schools you're considering, where he would spend a day in a classroom? You might also visit the parking lot when school lets out, and just approach other parents to ask what they think of each school....
