I hope you went ahead and made a written request for the school to do testing. If not, give parents helping parents a call. they are a parent training and information center and offer parent training on your rights. they are in san jose, the web site is www.php.com
Ask to speak to someone in the education department. They are free and have blingual staff. ;-)

Bre, if your daughter's personality has changed since she started the medications, I believe she is on the wrong medication, or the dosage of that med. is inappropriate. If your doctor doesn't take more time to answer your questions, and make sure your daughter is not having problems, then I recommend you try to find a specialist, such as a child psychiatrist, who can more closely monitor her ADHD medications.

While it is true that many students with ADHD benefit from social skills training, it is usually because they did NOT have friends before, and they need help learning how to "read social cues." If your daughter used to be more friendly, and is now moody and angry, I do not feel it is a social skills issue, but a medication issue. (My son was so hyper before he started taking medications, that he would go from one thing to another, and never paid attention to what other kids were doing. Once he could finally slow down and concentrate, he needed to learn how to start to talk and LISTEN to what other children were saying/doing, in order to be a good friend.)

This week I have a meeting with the Student Success Team and they give ma a lot of strategies and they toll me that my daughter 504 plan I'm really happy that the school team will help my daughter but I still have some concerns and toll them , when she star the medication all the time she is angry and I notice that she star with social problems before for her was easy to have friends, keep it and meet new kid now is hard I read at ADDITUDE magazine about that kids with ADHD need therapies for social skills and behavior for prompting disciplene and focus where I can find this kind of therapy unfortunate my daughter's doctor's is like this is just a flu and that all she just write the prescription and no more no information nothing .

Hi. I see from your other posts that your daughter's medication is for ADHD. While medication can help with a child's lack of focus and inattention, it's not going to "cure" a learning disability or make anxiety or processing problems disappear. Medication can help a child be more attentive to what an instructor is teaching, but if the child learns in a different way, then the method of teaching may need to change. It's common for people with ADHD to also have co-existing learning disabilities.

I noticed that you posted a previous question about "ADHD and Speech" on March 10th, and at that time, michellea recommended that you request a comprehensive educational evaluation for possible learning disabilities. Have you done that? Without a comprehensive evaluation, it's really hard to know what your daughter's strengths and weaknesses are. If your daughter has a math disability, then the school should be able to provide her with more intensive remediation.
