Since this is a nationwide forum, can you explain to us what the DK program is? I'm thinking it might be "Double Kindergarten" since you mention they need another year to mature? If they instead move children directly to kindergarten with support services, it might be another option....

If your child has an IEP (in spec ed) and the DK program specifically is written in their IEP as part of their services and/or placement then this would be considered a "change of placement" if they removed your child from this program/setting. The district must provide you with "prior written notice" (PWN) at a minimum before they can change the IEP or they will be in violation of state and federal law. You can find more info on PWN and procedural safeguards, along with you and your childs rights here:

I suggest reading up on laws regs and your rights. You can't play the ed game unless you know the rules. If all else fails you can always contact your local newspaper and have them do an article like described in the "creative tactics" thread.

Hi and Welcome to Great Schools!!!

I can't answer your question exactly because this is a nation wide site.

However children with learning disabilities are covered by federal law. So there placement is based on what they need according to their IEP. Not what programs the school has available. So whatever needs were being meet by the DK program that enabled your child / children to learn will have to be meet somehow in a different program or the district will have to keep the DK program.
For example your child may need a small class size to learn 10 to 1. They may need accommodations such as having tests read to them etc. They may need services such as occupational therapy. I just gave these accommodations and services as an example since I do not know your child / children.

All these accommodations and services will have to be meet by some program next year.

Here are some groups you may want to join.

You may want to repost your question in one of the above mentioned groups with some more details about what services and accommodations your child / children need.

I understand that they need to cut on a whole lot of funding for some program but the DK they should not cut it. Also the teacher there is great I see the big diference in my child. All of our children benefit from the program. So if we dont have the program what will happen to our children? Only those that need to mature one more year before they go to kindergarden.
