Our principal is saying now that we've moved we can't go back next year, but he told another family otherwise.

My daughter has one year left at her school. She's in the 5th grade, is a GATE student, my 2nd grader is one of his teachers top students. They have high marks on their report cards, they're good students. My cousin and his family have also moved out of district, he has two bright girls, one of which also has just the 6th grade to finish at that school. Both myself and my cousin's wife are stay-at-home mom's who go to school. He told them he didn't see a problem with them attending the school next year so that their daughter could finish. Just a few weeks ago though he told me quite clearly that unless we lived in their zone, that my kids would not be returning. What can I do to keep my daughter (at least) in that school for one more year? Otherwise, she'll go to a new school for the 6th grade and then start all over again at a new school for the 7th grade. It's nutts! I can drive, we don't live far, I have the time, my kids test score contribute to the school. Any advice?

I have, both of our families have. In fact, not that I think time matters, but I put my request in first. I went to our home school and that principal signed/approved the request to let us out of our home school and into another. The district is the same thank goodness. I then drove the doc to our school - this was about two months ago... I still haven't heard anything indicating we've been approved or denied. The only thing I do have to go by is my conversation with the principal. He even came to my house to verify that we lived where we now said we moved to. I didn't realize principals do that.

Check with the school district to see if there is a school choice process in which you can request your children attend a different school than they are zoned for. If you are moving out of the school district, be prepared to have the request rejected. If you are staying in the same district, hopefully this will allow your kids to continue to attend the same school.
