My fiance is in Portland, TX and that's where his boys will be going to school... Does anyone know anything about the area? It will be a little while longer before my children and I can go but hopefully not too long...

I agree that the PS system in Texas in general is inferior, however you must remember that the Private Schools are only as good as the teachers. In other words-BEWARE!!

We moved from an absolutely dreadful school in Amarillo and my daughter is now doing great at Calallen MS. She tested into G/T and she is doing great in tennis and Honors band. She has also made lots of friends.

My fiance and I are thinking of moving to Corpus Christi if he is offered this job... Between us we have two 4th graders, a 1st grader and a 2 year old... Recomendations, for schools, daycares, activities, etc would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I have also moved to Corpus from California in November last year and had the same problem. Callalen ISD, Flour Bluff ISD and Portalnd ISD have a good reputation. However, I decided to send my 4 year old son to private school. My husband and I believe (and look at some statistics) that public schools in California outperform Texas' public schools. Of course, this is just an average, it doesn't means that kids that attend good public schools in Texas don't do well. This information has to be taken in a case by case basis. Hope this helps.
