Life is full of adjustments and the need to deal with change but yes, for some children the transition from Montessori to a mainstream school can be difficult. I've seen some children do it without any trouble and I've seen others struggle. But I never saw a child that wasn't able to eventually make the transition and find their footing in their new school even if they continued to miss the old school and the wonderful way they did things.
lulung, in my original post, I wondered about how many grade levels your Montessori school includes. If your child is just going to be there through kindergarten, he probably won't have as much difficulty transitioning to another school later on, as he would if he attended Montessori through 3rd or 4th grade, and then tried to conform to a public school environment.
I know the school situation in California is very competitive....if your son attends Montessori now, will he be able to go to a charter school later, or is your neighborhood public school an acceptable choice?
Thanks! The Montessori one is like two block from my home and the charter school is close to my work but it's far though. It's like 1/2 hour from home. But some parents say that kids after attend Montessori school will be difficult for them to adapt a public school again, Is that true?
If these schools are close to your home, go and visit both. Montessori schools embrace a wonderful philosophy of education but not one that every parent wants for their child though I would have been very happy to have had a Montessori education for my own children.
Since Greatschools is a nationwide forum, the chance of getting an answer from another person in the same town, with a child of similar age, who is familiar with both schools, is slim. Did you look at the "Preschool" tab on the green menu bar near the top of this page, to see if there are any parent comments about either school?

Thanks for you explaination. My son is 4 years old. He is going to start a Pre-kindegarden this August. As I said, I registered him to a charter school for 2009-2010 before I got noticed that he has been accepted by lotery in a public Montessori school from Magnet program. I need some feedback about these two school.
How old is your son? Maria Montessori was an Italian whose educational philosophies form the foundation for Montessori school's teaching styles, but not all Montessori schools are identical. In general, the belief is that children will learn when they're ready. You can do a "google search" to learn more. Individual Headmasters/Headmistresses (principals/owners) of Montessori schools obviously hire different instructors, and there are variations in how the schools operate, in terms of academics, tuition, etc. Some Montessori schools don't offer classes for students in upper grades...have you asked those types of questions? By the same token, charter schools are not all the same. Most get funding through public systems, so you don't have the same tuition considerations as with a private Montessori school, but you may still have to pay for uniforms and other supplies that a child in a regular public school wouldn't have.
If you're really unsure what to do, can your child do a "shadow day" where he goes through a day's schedule with a current student at both schools, and then you can decide, based on his feedback?
I would
