Freshman - Social Club

My son joined this SO Social Club... his in 9th Grade Freshman. He thinks his old enough, and know what is going on. The Club fundraising is not like old days like car wash or sell chocolate bars.... the Club so called fundraising is more like they profit form the student... every week the club have atleast 1 fundraising place to meet like Ice cream place, yugort or pizza place... and each person that wanted to joined the club need to bring 3 guest or pay $2.00 per guest not attended and also they fundraise after school around 5-9.. And this club also Haze them alot. I finally convince him to stop going and not joining the club.
Do anyone have any advise to make see and act more mature?

Welcome to Greatschools. I don't know what "SO" Social Club is, but at my son's high school, every student organization must have a faculty member as a "moderator" or liaison, and if parents have any questions or concerns, that is the first person to speak to about what the club is doing. In high school, it isn't surprising that some activities go until 9 p.m. at night, or even later, but it should not be all the time. That seems very unusual.

In our school, NO HAZING of any kind is allowed, although it is common for older students to tease freshmen, but not in any physical abusive ways. (For example, if students were all assigned jobs to help decorate the gym for a dance, freshmen might be told to pick up scrap paper and take out the garbage, while older students hung nice streamers.) It is hard to convince a Freshman to act more mature, when they see upperclass students acting silly, too.

I think you really do need to talk to the faculty advisor for this club. You might also like to join the High School Group at community.greatschools.net/groups/11529, so you can compare stories with other parents.
