I dividend in my son's class, a child passed on something his mom said about my son.

Anonymous
“ My mum says that XXXX doesn’t know his sight words”
I said “are you sure she said that?”
He replied “Mom says she’s not saying that to be mean, it just the truth”
I’m not comfortable with a mom discussing another child’s ability in front of their child or other mom. As dividends we were not suppose to do this.
This child inocently relayed his moms comments. I don't wish to put the teacher in a spot I get on very well with her.
Should I inform the teacher or the principle.

It's called gossiping. Dividends are not supposed to discuss what they learn about children during the course of volunteering. The parent should be reported and admonished. In some schools, the gossip is a way of life and is tolerated. I have a friend in Longwood who has told me that it is not tolerated at her child's elementary school so perhaps yours is a school that will actually address the matter... Good Luck

Hi Anon,

I've never heard the term dividend, but we do have parent volunteers in the room. We all sign forms that says we all promise to protect the privacy of students. However, I've been with other parents who occasionally bring up stuff that's happening in the classroom--in front of their kids.

I think it's easy for parents to forget that little eyes and ears repeat everything they hear.

If you are truly concerned about this breach, I'd relay to the teacher what the child said to you and see where it goes from there.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
