When I was doing my preschool tour two years ago I made sure to call all the schools I was interested in seeing and set up an appointment. I was able to bring my kids to all but one school and that school was a meeting with the principal including about 10 other parents. Tutor Time is an expensive school and does not require anything above state requirements for it's "teachers." AZ requires a high school diploma and 20 hrs of specialized training. If you want a school with real teachers, do some work. You can start at the resource center website (I believe it's cccr.org, not sure, maybe someone else knows for sure). I ended up sending my kids to KinderCare. It is fairly priced, includes all meals and snacks and my school has teachers who either hold or will be graduating soon with BACHELORS DEGREES in Early Childhood Education. Do your work. Spend the time. I know it's super hard when you work but you have to do it if you want to find a place where you will all be happy. Most preschools are open from 6:30am - 6:30pm so you should be able to work in visits. Good luck!

If ur child is enrolled there then u should be allowed to stop in and see ur child ANYTIME!! if they prohibit it, I would consider another daycare center.

not sure, if you did or not. It should say something even if its no violations found. When you go to the arizona childcare licensing site, you should get this page hsapps.azdhs.gov/ls/sod/SearchProv.aspx?type=CC once on the childcare center search page you should be able to put in your childs center and get a report

Yes, it is standard procedure at Tutor Time to not allow people into the classrooms or learning areas. Only parents of children enrolled are allowed to stop by, they have no problem with that. The fact that you were touring was the problem. You should probably call ahead and set up a time to take the full tour. I would say it was a RED FLAG if they did let you into the rooms where other children are. They are just trying to provide some security measures. They can't allow anyone to come and go all day.

These places should let the parents anytime to see their child and the rooms, I agree with carvell04, there is something fishy going on there, if I were you, I will take my child to another nursery place were tours are wellcome at any time.

talk about red flags! I would also not approve of a daycare that just let anyone wander through it but a parent of an enrolled child should be able to come into a childs classroom at anytime. Seriously they should welcome it.

I would find another daycare for sure! Did you know you could go unto the Arizona State Licensing site and see what kind of violations a center has? Maybe take a look you might be suprised :)

I'm confused...is your child already enrolled there or are you visiting places to find a replacement for his previous school? No responsible early childhood center would just let someone come in and go to a classroom unannounced UNLESS their child is currently enrolled. I'd be more concerned if they did just let anybody off the street come in.

That being said, no tours at all absolutely isn't typical policy. At our center, parents are taken on individual tours and taken to each room. Because they're individual and not group tours, they HAVE to be scheduled so the director or asst. director is available, so there's no appointment conflicts, and most of all for safety reasons. The teachers are not told about tours though, so parents get a very real idea of how things are run and how the day goes in each room. If teachers aret truly doing their job, they shouldn't have anything to worry about. Parents who are enrolled already are welcome anytime, and some do drop by to peek in every now and then. Like another person said, I would never put my child anywhere that I couldn't drop by unannounced. The conditions there sound very worrying. I'd definitely look around more.

I feel the same way, I wouldn't send my child to any school I couldn't walk in during operating hours.

Please check out Shepherd of the Valley preschool. It is located at the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Phoenix, around 15th Ave. and Maryland I believe. It's where my son went to preschool and we loved it. I know exactly how you feel because I also had a terrible preview of a preschool when I was looking. Then I found Shepherd of the Valley. It was clean, great staff, and and engaged the children in positive activities. Good luck.

I don't live in AZ yet but planning on moving there. Anyway, I say trust your instincts. I too would not be happy with a school that doesn't let me look around and the fact that there were babies crying all over the place makes me sick. You should've heard babies laughing and having fun, not crying. Good luck in finding a new center.

You're right in your feeling about this location. I, too, would not put my child in a day care that would not allow parents to visit their children at any time.

Hopefully you have other nursery schools in your area that are more parent-friendly.

Good luck.

I would not want to leave my child in a facility that I could not drop in unannounced and check in from time to time. There are some pre-k's that have a policy that they do not want parents to disturb the class for the first few weeks -- to help children establish a routine (which is understandable). Still the facilities I am familiar with had a viewing window from which a parent could see the children without the child being made aware of the visit.

Are there any other pre-k options available in your area? If you have an uncomfortable feeling about the facility -- listen to your gut instincts and investigate other options for child care.

Trust your gut. I feel the same way tour do. I should be greeted and welcomed ANYTIME to see the room my child is in. My feeling is.... If you won't let me tour a class, then you obviously have something to hide. My child would NOT go to that daycare.
