Can i choose which school my child attends?

Joeymac
My child currently lives in another state but will be moving here to Huntsville with me in the summer, I'm not sure what school district I live in but I know the closest school to me is one that I do not want her to attend. Can I choose which school she will attend?

Attendance rules are different for every district. Some districts have "school choice" options or magnet schools, which allow students to attend schools other than the one nearest their home, but there's often an application process and if your daughter isn't with you yet, I'm guessing it may be too late to apply. Your best bet is to go to the school nearest you, and ask them what district they're part of, and then call the district office to ask directly. Huntsville City Schools will allow a transfer from one school to another school if the transfer does not increase the majority race at the destination school. So, a black kid could transfer to a majority white school (Huntsville HS, Grissom HS) but a white kid cannot transfer to a majority white school.
