Relocating to Mission Viejo, CA soon. Can anyone give me advice on choosing elementary and middle schools?

MissMeliss
Are there any good neighborhoods that are within walking or bike ride distance of good elementary and middle school? Are any of the elem. and middle schools in new facilities - the schools that I have seen seem to be older buildings?

If you are considering a private school you might want to check out Aliso VIejo Christian School. They have differentiated math programs that worked well for our son that needed advanced math and their science program is top drawer! There are lots of children from Mission Viejo at the school.

Hankey is an older campus. But has the newest approach ( or oldest depending on how you look at it) Hankey is Kindergarten through 8th grade.(2009 first 8th grade graduation) This year both elementary and MS are starting The International Baccalaureate (IB) programs for all grade levels. This is basically thematic (hands on) IBO.org teaching which incorporates critical thinking and community service into all levels of curriculum. check out Hankey's website for more "Hankey" information www.chhawks.schoolloop.com/

future mom- both MS are good. Hankey is only about 300 kids total with smaller class sizes but less electives. You and your son should visit both campuses, they are unique in their own way. Hankey this year is becoming an IB school where all subject matter is taught more thematic (hands-on) check out IBO.org to give you an idea of the future of Hankey....Newhart has about 1600-1800 students and has great things happening also...different fits for different needs...both have great math and science programs. Bussing might be a problem since a lot of bussing has been stopped so make sure to look into that also.

I am also moving to mission viejo and would like information on Newhart middle school and Carl Hankey elementary school since those are our nearest middle schools. My 12yo son is very interested in math and science.
