We moved from Michigan, too. Schaumburg is a great community, with an excellent park district. Winston Churchhill is rated an 8. When house hunting, we always looked for 10, or 9,just because we had flexibility. 8 is probably fine, too, though. It all depends on your situation.

All of District 54 elementary schools use the same curriculum. I don't know anything in particular regarding WC, but I do know they use Everyday Math.

Everyday Math one of the new "fuzzy" math programs being taught in most school districts in Illinois. Since my son is very good in math, I've been supplementing his math at home with Harcourt Math 2002, "What Your Second Grader Needs to Know," and other online resources. If you want to learn more about EM, you could go to Illinoisloop.org, a good resource on education in illinois.

I think the school would be fine in general, but the math program is horrible, in my opinion.

Hi. Unfortunately, Greatschools is a nationwide forum, and the chance of finding another family from a particular town, with children of similar age, attending a particular school, is slim. Are you talking about Schaumburg, IL? If so, I live in an adjacent suburb, and I believe most of Schaumburg falls in District 54, which is considered good overall. Obviously, individual teachers can "make or break" any child's classroom experience, but in general, it's a good area in which to live. Have you checked out the "Research and Compare" feature on the green menu bar near the top of this page? That will give you more information about schools in the area.
