Hi, I was raised in Grand Rapids and am actually here at my folks. I know that Jenison has a lot of nice kids, I had a swim meet against them but they were really friendly. I actually went to East Grand Rapids. I know that East treats their special needs kids very well. Schedule a tour with them so you can see first hand if they can meet your kids needs, I don't know what need you kid has so I can't tell you for sure that East is this place.
Hi. Unfortunately, Greatschools is a nationwide forum, and the chance of finding another family from a particular town, with a child having similar issues, is slim. I have a child with special needs, but there is a huge difference in services required, depending on the type of disability, in any school district. For example, two kids may struggle with reading, but a blind child will need far difference things than a child with dyslexia, or a child with ADHD.
My advice is to contact a local parent support group for whatever condition your child has (ie, www.chadd.org for families with ADHD, or www.thearc.org for Downs and autism, etc.) and ask them for recommendations about good schools and other resources in the area.
