Sometimes the private school curriculum or teacher is not reaching the child. It may not be a good fit. My older son thrives in private school, but my younger child was struggling. We think it was because of his rapport with one of his teachers. We moved younger son to public school in January and he's thriving and excelling in his classes (we left the older one in private since his experience was the exact opposite). Each child is different. One atty I know has 4 kids and 2 attend private; 2 attend public because the child's personality didn't adapt to the private school rigors.

If your child was doing good in a public school, he will be able to catch up in a private school as well, someone I know, had the same problem with their child but the child now is doing great in her private school, she just needed to catch up, of course, with her mother helping her, specially in Reading and in Math.

I agree w/laura1967~more info would be helpful. I put my child in private before spring break of his 2nd grade. He was "behind" a little at the private because of the programs they used, some of which, I thought were not developmentally appropriate. Although on the entrance test he scored an 86%. I put him back in public after 2 wks. The public school ended up being a better fit. It is an exemplary public elementary, but the teachers and curriculum were just better suited at our public school, in my opinion.

As laura1967 mentioned, in order to help you, we need to have a better understanding of what the difficulties are. If the problems are academic in nature, are they just certain subject areas, or across the board? A child who struggles in private school would likely also struggle in public, but more support services might be available to help. Please let us know.
