I hate to be the one to tell you this, but chances are you won't like OK. I moved here from Chicago and have spent 6 miserable years here. If you're from anywhere larger, you will find Oklahomans have a "don't talk to me" attitude that grates on you. In all this time I have only made one mom friend. Tulsa is the 16th fattest city in the nation and it has no sidewalks. It has no opera or symphony and the art "museums" are less than third-rate. There is no culture here, no exercise, no community. Money is made from Indian Casinos and there is no centralized downtown. The zoo is very small and the aquarium is too expensive to visit. If there's any way for you to contact me when you get here, I'd love to meet someone else NOT from here, LOL.

Jenks schools are reputed to be very good, but Jenks itself is a dirty little "antiquing" town (more like junk) with nothing going for it but a river (which is nice). Broken Arrow schools are also reputed to be pretty good.

The best Tulsa public schools district is called Union. Union is the word they use for the area between Tulsa and Broken Arrow. In terms of places to live, the South end is much, much better--anything 51st or farther north (smaller numbers, ie. 41, 31) are BAAAAD neighborhoods. That's where all the crime occurs. Stay away. 71st, 81st, and 91st are great areas. Oh, and be prepared for most elementary teachers to give your kids wrong information and say "ain't" a lot (eg. I ain't got none o' them thangs).

I hope I haven't totally depressed you, but I want you to have a good heads up from someone who ISN'T from here. I am not a negative person, believe it or not (and I think that's actually part of the problem--I don't fit in with cowboys). I like happy, outgoing, cultural places and exercise. Good luck when you move here!!!

If you are looking for public schools, the Jenks District is really good. Jenks East Elementary in particular was impressive for me. I am a teacher who has subbed in many schools as well as a parent who raised 3 daughters in the area.

I have lived in Fremont CA for the last eight years, I have been back in OK for just over a year but I was here during high school for four years.

The schools with a big Football Tradition in and around Tulsa are Jenks and Union. Union has a Football Stadium that people who see it for the first time think it's a large University. The suburbs are generally considered to have better schools than Tulsa. I would strongly consider Jenks school district, Union and then maybe Broken Arrow.

I lived in Tulsa for about 6 years and loved it, It's a wonderful city full of great people. You won't have a hard time finding a good school or community. You'll be happily surprised!.
