In the military with child to start kindergarten in the fall, how to enroll him?

Naupoto
My issue is that I am here in the military but planning on staying here permamently. I don't know where we will be living so how do I go about enrolling my child into kindergarten without having knowledge of where we will reside permamently? I'm worried that school will not accept him because of improper planning on my part. Please help.

I am a teacher(and military spouse) in Alexandria, VA and you will only be able to enroll your child when you have a residence and proof of address. If you enroll your child and move within that school's/feeder school's boundaries you'll not have to worry. However, if you move outside the boundaries, depending on the time of year, you may/will have to switch schools.

Hi. I'm not from VA, but I would think there's a family liaison officer on the base who can tell you about where other families enroll their children... If you start a child in one school, and then move in the middle of the year, most schools will allow students to complete the term, although you usually have to provide your own transportation (they won't adjust bus routes to pick up students outside of normal attendance boundaries.) Since school doesn't start until fall, you've got a little more time to try and get information about best districts and where to live.
