Hi...my son attends a private high school in San Juan Capistrano. There are at least 4 private high school in San Juan all of varying sizes. I imagine you've made up your mind already what with the school year beginning in a couple of weeks. I know the area well and a lot about the schools. We lived for several years overseas (UK) and nearly moved to Sydney a few years ago so I'm familiar with the school system in Australia (similar to the UK) and also how it compares to the schools here. Two of my children transferred from the UK system into the high school system here. With regard to recruiting international students, I am aware of at least three schools that recruit international students. Capistrano Valley Christian School, Saddleback Valley Christian School and JSerra Catholic High School. The fourth private school in San Juan is St. Margaret's. I'm unsure if they have an international programme. Having researched all these school personally and having lived here in the area prior to our overseas assignment, I can share quite a lot of information if you're still interested. Feel free to contact me privately.

Hi, I'm a bit north of San Juan Capistrano, but the only major private school I'm aware of in the area is Saddleback Valley, is that who it's from?

I'd be a bit leery myself if it's nothing she's applied for, and this comes out of the blue.

Given the economy here, even the nicest private schools are struggling a bit, so perhaps they're doing outreach to fill seats.

Does the scholarship cover the entire tuition? Is it something your daughter has expressed interest in? Would she be housed with a family? What's going to happen if she gets here and she's homesick?

I consider myself pretty down to earth, so if you'd like to contact me by private message, feel free. Like healthy11 said, finding people from a particular area can be a challenge.

HI. Your posting caught my attention, since I've spend some time in your vicinity...My husband had a work assignment in Australia some years ago, and we've also spent several weeks holiday in NZ. I'm not from CA, but I've got a teen, and a good overall educational background. I wanted to find out a bit more, so perhaps others who do live in the San Jan Capistrano area can assist you...

It sounds very unusual for a private high school to be contacting and recruiting international students...colleges, yes; but high schools? I've never heard of that before. Is your daughter a swimmer, or what is her sport?

Did your daughter apply for this particular scholarship opportunity, or was she somehow contacted by an organization and told she was eligible for it? Did a coach nominate her? (If you aren't sure how she was selected for this "opportunity," I would be very skeptical about it.) Is she an Olympic-caliber athlete, such that she would be training under a particular well-regarded coach? If so, then there should be other former athletes/parents of athletes whose names the coach can give you, that you should be able to contact and find out more details from. See if there's an Australian sports authority who is familiar with placement of student athletes in the U.S. While everything might be perfectly "legit," I think you're doing the right thing by seeking more information, but I'm afraid Greatschools forum may not have enough parents from any particular city, who have children of similar age, to be able to give you the direct information you're seeking. I wish you well!
