Is there a really big difference between private school(St. Andrews) and good public elementary school?

My child currently attends St .Andrew's school @Saratoga, which we really like but can't afford any more. We are going to transfer her to one of Saratoga's elementary schools. Does anyone have any similar experience? What are the differences in academics, community and extracurricular activities?

I cannot speak to the public schools, but you might want to check out Sacred Heart across the street. Strong sense of community, excellent academics, less than 1/2 the price of St. Andrews. A number of families have made the same switch in prior years and are quite happy.
