What advice to you have on helping child stay positive on learning how to read? Some of her friends class

rodman
know how to read already. I want to build confidence and help her learn without comparing herself to the level of others.

If you could share more information about you daughter's age, abilities, and grade, I might be able to share more specific information.
The most important thing to remember is that children do what we do - not so much what we say. If she sees you reading (whether the newspaper, on-line, a cook book - instructions -road maps & signs etc.) - and enjoying it, she will likely imitate your behavior.
Of course, reading with and to your children is an invaluable experience. You want to foster the sense that reading is a pleasurable -not punitive experience.

How old is your daughter/what grade? I found one of the best things to encourage my child was visiting our local library, and letting him pick out books that he thought looked interesting. Our library has a large children's selection of materials, including some that had books with accompanying cassettes and/or CDs, so even for "fun" he could look at the words and follow along when I wasn't able to sit next to him. Repetition of material is a good way for kids to learn...
Also, If your daughter has someone to practice "reading aloud to" that's also a good skill to develop...she can read to a baby sibling, or to a pet, or even a "tea party" of dolls and stuffed animals.
