We are relocating to Florida from Minneapolis, MN and am looking for a Spanish Immersion school??

Anonymous
I am in need of information on schools in the Clearwater/Tampa Bay area. We would love to get a Spanish Immersion program. My kids will be in 3 & 5th grade.

I have lived in this county all my life and I have never heard of that here. ONce your child is in Middle school he/she will have option of taking spanish class. I am speaing in regards to Public school. With private school, you may have to call the nearby Montesorri Programs

For what it's worth, our school district does not accept new students into the immersion program after the first grade, unless they have been previously involved in an immersion program. I don't know if this is common or not.

I couldn't find any Spanish Immersion programs in Clearwater or Tampa Bay. This one is located in Jacksonville and may be able to refer you to a state network of schools with immersion or dual language programs.

I live in this county and there is no true immersion program, however there are two Magnet elementary schools that offer daily Spanish Classes. These are in the southern part of the county but they are countywide school so no matter what part of the county you live, they kids can apply to attend. They are Bay Point Elementary and Perkins. As far as the other areas of school, I would recommend checking the county website and reviewing the school brochures. They explain what each school has in programs, visions, etc. Hope that helps a bit.

We are also relocating in Debember from Lakeville, MN. Would you be willing to share your school research with me? I am interested in finding out what schools/areas you chose! Thanks.

I was not too impressed and so confused as to what neighborhood to buy in.. so we decided to split our house up for a while; my husband lives in Florida and we stayed here.. for now. I did like the fundamental schools, and they are located throughout the county. When I talked to most people they were sending their kids to a private school. Do you know where you will be living?

I'm not sure yet. The whole school thing concerns me. I really want to find a good nieghborhood. I'm thinking about the safety harbor, dunedin, oldsmar area in Pinnelas county. If not there, perhaps Westchase in Tampa. We can't afford private schools right now. The fundamental schools seem to be the only real option unless we stay in the northern Pinnelas county or Lutz/Land o'Lakes area and that's too far out.

Funny, that was the only "type" of school I was happy with (since they didn't have a Spanish Immersion) I love Saftey Harbor, close to everything and nice community. I wish you all the best! If you need any phone numbers or anything let me know - you can call me at 612-770-5845 (my name is Kari)
