My child is currently in the merrillville school system, however I live in Crown Point. The school zones are forcing this. I am having trouble moving into the Crown Point school system. Are there any public elementary schools that may accept tuition until I can move?
I too face this same dilemma and no there is no public school in Crown Point that accepts tuition. You can confirm this answer with the Jim Miller/ Superintendent of the Crown Point School Corp. I've have looked to into all of the local area schools and the only public school corp. that will accept tuition kids transferring from out of the school district is Munster.
I'm coming onto this thread late, but we live in Crown Point and are in the Merrillville School District. Once upon a time, Merrillville was an awesome school district. I think I got an excellent education when I went there. But somewhere between my attendance and my daughter attending in the 90s, it really went downhill. So there was no way I was going to send my son to Merrillville Schools. He is attending a private school in Crown Point. It's an excellent school with very small class sizes. He is thriving and doing things that other kids his age were not (he was writing cursive and reading words in Kindergarten!). The school is strictly elementary so we will be forced to move to either south Crown Point so he can attend public school (although I hear they are seriously over-crowded), or we will move somewhere closer to a private middle school. I think your only alternative would be to go the private school route.
